VILLAGE NEWS

In September 2005 an East Clandon Conservation Character Appraisal document was completed by Guildford Borough Council followed by a wide public consultation on the document which included an exhibition in the village hall. After careful consideration of the representations made the guidance was amended and formally adopted by the GBC Executive Committee. Of significance are:

  1. To include the HS Goodhart-Rendel Snelgate Cottages on Old Epsom Road and the adjoining field to give added protection to these buildings which are an example of good urban design.
  2. Realignment of the western boundary of the Conservation Area to follow the ditch boundary behind Clandon Manor Farm rather than running illogically through the farm building as existing.
  3. The introduction of Article 4 (2) to prevent unsuitable changes to the view of properties from the road (e.g. replacement of doors and windows). More information on Page 22.
  4. The adverse impact of road noise (especially the A246) is recognised.
  5. Widening of the entrance to the village near the Old Forge (close to the pub) is suggested with the possible addition of a footpath.
